Dược liệu đã được sử dụng ở một số vùng lãnh thổ để điều trị một số chứng và bệnh tại như ‘bahamas: thuốc tống hơi’, ‘dominican republic: thuốc giảm đau’, ‘elsewhere: thuốc giảm đau, emmenagogue, thuốc bổ’, ‘haiti: chất khử trùng’, ‘mexico: thuốc giảm đau, giờ mở cửa’.Từ loài này đã phân lập và xác định được 137 hoạt chất thuộc về 12 nhóm gồm benzene and substituted derivatives, carboxylic acids and derivatives, dihydrofurans, fatty acyls, flavonoids, furanoid lignans, lactones, organooxygen compounds, oxanes, prenol lipids, steroids and steroid derivatives, unsaturated hydrocarbons.
