Loài Vaccinium myrtillus thuộc họ Ericaceae phân bố tại một số vùng trên thế giới như Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Russian Federation, Sweden, Italy, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Norway, Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Ireland. Dược liệu đã được sử dụng ở một số vùng lãnh thổ để điều trị một số chứng và bệnh tại như ‘turkey: thuốc giải độc, chất làm se, thuốc lợi tiểu, chất làm lạnh, thuốc bổ, chất khử trùng, cầm máu’, ‘ain: chất khử trùng’.Từ loài này đã phân lập và xác định được 135 hoạt chất thuộc về 19 nhóm gồm aryltetralin lignans, benzene and substituted derivatives, carboxylic acids and derivatives, cinnamic acids and derivatives, dibenzylbutane lignans, fatty acyls, flavonoids, furanoid lignans, hydroxy acids and derivatives, lactones, lignan glycosides, lignan lactones, organooxygen compounds, prenol lipids, quinolizines, saturated hydrocarbons, steroids and steroid derivatives, stilbenes, tannins.
