Loài Vitex negundo thuộc họ Lamiaceae phân bố tại một số vùng trên thế giới như United States of America, Chinese Taipei, China, Hong Kong, India. Dược liệu đã được sử dụng ở một số vùng lãnh thổ để điều trị một số chứng và bệnh tại như ‘china: thuốc long đờm, họ sẽ thảo luận, thuốc diệt ký sinh trùng’, ‘elsewhere: diệt khuẩn, làm dịu, họ sẽ thảo luận, thuốc lợi tiểu, thuốc trừ sâu, thuốc an thần, thuốc tẩy giun, thuốc giảm đau, thuốc bổ, chất làm se, thuốc long đờm, đổ mồ hôi’, ‘french: thuốc bổ’, ‘india: emmenagogue’, ‘indonesia: thuốc tẩy giun’, ‘malaysia: lo lắng’, ‘sanscrit: thuốc lợi tiểu’.Từ loài này đã phân lập và xác định được 242 hoạt chất thuộc về 20 nhóm gồm 2-arylbenzofuran flavonoids, arylnaphthalene lignans, aryltetralin lignans, benzene and substituted derivatives, carboxylic acids and derivatives, depsides and depsidones, fatty acyls, flavonoids, furanoid lignans, lactones, lignan lactones, naphthalenes, naphthofurans, organooxygen compounds, phenanthrenes and derivatives, phenols, prenol lipids, steroids and steroid derivatives, tetrahydrofurans, unsaturated hydrocarbons.
