Loài Piper guineense thuộc họ Piperaceae phân bố tại một số vùng trên thế giới như nan, Benin, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Gabon, Liberia, Angola, Cameroon, Madagascar, Sao Tome and Principe, Nigeria, Togo, Congo, Democratic Republic of the, Equatorial Guinea, Uganda, Congo, Guinea, Belgium. Dược liệu đã được sử dụng ở một số vùng lãnh thổ để điều trị một số chứng và bệnh tại như ‘africa: thuốc trừ sâu, dạ dày, thuốc tống hơi’, ‘ghana: kem đánh răng, cầm máu’, ‘upper volta: thuốc kích thích tình dục, cầm máu’.Từ loài này đã phân lập và xác định được 162 hoạt chất thuộc về 15 nhóm gồm , benzene and substituted derivatives, benzodioxoles, cinnamaldehydes, dibenzylbutane lignans, fatty acyls, furanoid lignans, organooxygen compounds, phenol ethers, phenols, piperidines, prenol lipids, pyrrolidines, steroids and steroid derivatives, unsaturated hydrocarbons.
