Dược liệu đã được sử dụng ở một số vùng lãnh thổ để điều trị một số chứng và bệnh tại như ‘ghana: thuốc nhuận tràng’, ‘guatemala: thuốc kích thích tiết sữa’, ‘upper volta: thuốc chống nôn, thuốc nhuận tràng’, ‘zaire: thuốc lợi tiểu, thuốc tẩy giun’.Từ loài này đã phân lập và xác định được 55 hoạt chất thuộc về 10 nhóm gồm aristolactams, benzene and substituted derivatives, cinnamic acids and derivatives, dibenzylbutane lignans, fatty acyls, flavonoids, linear 1,3-diarylpropanoids, phenols, prenol lipids, steroids and steroid derivatives.
