Loài Zanthoxylum martinicense thuộc họ Rutaceae phân bố tại một số vùng trên thế giới như Virgin Islands (U.S.), Guadeloupe, Haiti, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin (French part), Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda. Dược liệu đã được sử dụng ở một số vùng lãnh thổ để điều trị một số chứng và bệnh tại như ‘haiti: chất làm se, có mùi hôi, chất khử trùng, thuốc lợi tiểu, người nói tiếng nói, dễ bị tổn thương, thuốc nhỏ mắt’.Từ loài này đã phân lập và xác định được 7 hoạt chất thuộc về 7 nhóm gồm benzene and substituted derivatives, benzophenanthridine alkaloids, furanoid lignans, isoquinolines and derivatives, organooxygen compounds, prenol lipids, protoberberine alkaloids and derivatives.
